A small Dunbar book club, matched by taste.

Cuento is coming to Dunbar. Sign up now and you'll be first in line when we start matching readers in your neighbourhood. Small circles of four to eight people, all within walking distance.

Dunbar is a settled, tree-lined neighbourhood of family homes and a small, walkable village strip. Unhurried and community-minded, it suits readers who like meeting somewhere quiet and familiar, close to the green edge of the west side.

Reading in Dunbar.

Dunbar's village strip is compact, and much of what a reading circle needs sits close together. The Dunbar branch of the Vancouver Public Library, the Dunbar Theatre and the Dunbar Community Centre are all within a short walk of each other on Dunbar Street, and the 7 bus runs past each of them.

The Dunbar Theatre, a single-screen cinema that has been showing films since 1935, is a rare survivor. Seeing an adaptation there together, then walking up the street to talk it over, can make a pleasant change from the usual discussion.

Green space is the neighbourhood's other strength. Chaldecott Park and Memorial West Park sit inside Dunbar, and Pacific Spirit Regional Park, including Camosun Bog, lies along its western edge. Kitsilano Neighbourhood House, the only neighbourhood house on the west side, also serves Dunbar residents with programs and volunteer-led conversation circles, which makes it worth knowing even from a distance.

Where could a Dunbar circle meet?

The Dunbar library branch on Dunbar Street is a quiet, central choice, and the village cafés nearby can seat a small group. A walk in Pacific Spirit Regional Park is another option on dry days. After the introduction email, the circle settles its own schedule and meeting place.

How many people are in a Dunbar book club?

Each reading circle has four to eight people. Small enough that everyone talks, big enough that it still works if someone can't make it one month.

What do Dunbar book clubs read?

Each circle decides together. Cuento matches you based on shared reading taste, so your group will already have common ground.

Where do Dunbar reading groups meet?

Most circles meet at a local café in Dunbar. Cuento suggests a first meeting spot, but your group picks what works best. The whole point is that everyone is within walking distance.
