Reading in Mount Pleasant.

Mount Pleasant's reading life starts at the foot of Kingsway. The Mount Pleasant branch of the Vancouver Public Library shares a building with the community centre at 1 Kingsway, where Kingsway meets Main Street. Nearby, Pulpfiction Books on Main near Broadway shelves new and used copies side by side, and Lucky's Books & Comics near 16th Avenue carries graphic novels, zines and small-press work, with a gallery space for readings and launches.

South of 16th, the Main Street corridor slows down as it climbs toward Riley Park. Collage Collage mixes books for all ages with art supplies and hosts launches in its classroom, and Carson Books & Records, further uphill, sells literature, cookbooks and art books beside used vinyl. Little Mountain Neighbourhood House, near King Edward, is a useful noticeboard for that end of the street.

Downhill to the north, the neighbourhood reaches the water at Olympic Village. Creekside Community Centre, built for the 2010 Winter Games, has meeting space on the False Creek seawall, and the wetland paths of Hinge Park lead out to Habitat Island. Olympic Village station on the Canada Line, the 3 Main bus and the 99 on Broadway tie it all together, and the Broadway Subway being built beneath the neighbourhood will add a Mount Pleasant station.
