Reading in Oakridge.

Oakridge is in the middle of its biggest change in decades. The new Oakridge Park opened at 41st and Cambie in May 2026, and the first section of its rooftop park, a city park run by the Vancouver Park Board, is now open to the public with lawns, gardens and places to sit. Oakridge–41st station and the R4 RapidBus make it one of the best-connected spots on the south side.

The neighbourhood's library is between homes. The old Oakridge branch has closed while a new branch is finished inside the Oakridge Park civic centre, which the Vancouver Public Library expects to open in 2027 as one of its largest branches. Until then, the Terry Salman branch at Hillcrest Centre and the Kerrisdale branch are the nearest.

North along the Canada Line, South Cambie centres on Douglas Park and its community centre, with cafés along Cambie near King Edward station and Queen Elizabeth Park just across the street. To the west, Shaughnessy's curving streets of large heritage homes lead to VanDusen Botanical Garden at Oak and 37th, whose Visitor Centre holds a café and the Yosef Wosk Library, the largest public-access botanical and horticultural library in western Canada.
