Reading in Point Grey.

Point Grey is where Vancouver runs out of city. Jericho, Locarno and Spanish Banks beaches line the shore in a long green chain, and Pacific Spirit Regional Park begins where the houses end, with forest trails that stay sheltered even on grey days. Few neighbourhoods offer a better setting for a walk before a discussion.

Above Jericho Beach, the West Point Grey Community Centre occupies Aberthau, a Tudor Revival mansion built in 1913 to a design by Samuel Maclure, with meeting rooms available to rent. Nearby, the Jericho Arts Centre, a 135-seat theatre, hosts community productions each season, a good shared outing for a circle that likes its stories staged as well as printed.

West 10th Avenue is the village strip, with shops, bakeries and the West Point Grey branch of the Vancouver Public Library. Kestrel Books on West 4th near Alma has sold used and rare titles for more than 40 years. The 99 B-Line runs along 10th Avenue to UBC, and the 4 and 84 follow 4th Avenue toward Kitsilano and downtown.

Where could a Point Grey circle meet?

The West Point Grey library branch on West 10th is central, and the cafés and bakeries on the same strip can seat a small group. For a more memorable setting, Aberthau, the heritage mansion that houses the community centre, has rooms available to rent. After the introduction email, the circle chooses what suits it.

How many people are in a Point Grey book club?

Each reading circle has four to eight people. Small enough that everyone talks, big enough that it still works if someone can't make it one month.

What do Point Grey book clubs read?

Each circle decides together. Cuento matches you based on shared reading taste, so your group will already have common ground.

Where do Point Grey reading groups meet?

Most circles meet at a local café in Point Grey. Cuento suggests a first meeting spot, but your group picks what works best. The whole point is that everyone is within walking distance.
