The West End is one of Vancouver's most densely walkable, welcoming corners, a leafy grid of apartment towers between downtown and English Bay. With Davie Street's easy energy and Stanley Park at the doorstep, it gathers a friendly mix of readers happy to meet close to home.

Reading in West End.
The West End has one of the city's handiest pairings for readers: the Joe Fortes branch of the Vancouver Public Library shares its Denman Street building with the West End Community Centre, a short walk from English Bay. Over on Davie, Little Sister's Book & Art Emporium has been a neighbourhood institution since 1983, known across the country for winning its long legal fight over the books it was allowed to import.
The quieter corners suit a small group well. Barclay Heritage Square, home to the Roedde House Museum, is a green pocket set back from the traffic, and Alexandra Park and Nelson Park both have benches under big trees. Delany's on Denman has served the neighbourhood since 1993 and fills with regulars, so it is better for a quick coffee than a long discussion.
Almost everyone here walks, and the buses on Davie, Denman and Robson cover the rest. In a neighbourhood this dense, a meeting place within walking distance of every member is rarely hard to find.
