A small Marpole book club, matched by taste.

Cuento is coming to Marpole. Sign up now and you'll be first in line when we start matching readers in your neighbourhood. Small circles of four to eight people, all within walking distance.

Marpole is a long-established neighbourhood at Vancouver's southern edge, where quiet residential streets meet the Fraser River. Down-to-earth and steadily changing, it gathers readers who like a friendly, unfussy place to meet close to the water.

Reading in Marpole.

Marpole sits on some of the oldest inhabited ground in the region. The Musqueam village and burial site c̓əsnaʔəm lies beneath parts of the neighbourhood and was first occupied thousands of years ago; in 2018 the City returned a parcel of that land to Musqueam. It is a neighbourhood that rewards readers who take the time to learn its story.

Present-day Marpole is practical and well served. The Marpole branch of the Vancouver Public Library is on Granville Street, and Marpole Neighbourhood House occupies the renovated heritage firehall on Hudson Street, where it runs programs for seniors, families, youth and newcomers. Marpole-Oakridge Community Centre sits inside Oak Park near 59th Avenue and Oak Street.

The Fraser River Trail follows the water along the neighbourhood's southern edge, and Winona Park offers a quieter green. Marine Drive station on the Canada Line and the buses on Granville Street link Marpole to downtown and Richmond.

Where could a Marpole circle meet?

The Marpole library branch on Granville Street and Marpole Neighbourhood House on Hudson Street are both central. On a dry day, the Fraser River Trail makes a pleasant walk before settling somewhere indoors. After the introduction email, members agree on the time and place that works for everyone.

How many people are in a Marpole book club?

Each reading circle has four to eight people. Small enough that everyone talks, big enough that it still works if someone can't make it one month.

What do Marpole book clubs read?

Each circle decides together. Cuento matches you based on shared reading taste, so your group will already have common ground.

Where do Marpole reading groups meet?

Most circles meet at a local café in Marpole. Cuento suggests a first meeting spot, but your group picks what works best. The whole point is that everyone is within walking distance.
